Immigrants travelling from Hamburg to New York
Here are 13 small format glass stereoviews ( 1.7 x 4.2 inches – 4.4 x 10.6 cm). They show immigrants from Germany, going from Hamburg to New York, USA in the 1920-1930’s. Photographs below are somewhat expanded, so you will be able to have a better look at the images. But please do bear in mind these are small format glass stereoviews.
Leaving from Germany. The ship is from the “Hamburg American Line”
Below you see 1st class passengers enjoying space on the above decks. They are sitting on comfortable and relaxing deck chairs.
The lifeboat above says this is the “MS Hamburg”. This one was on USA service in the 1920’s and 1930’s. In 1945 it was mined and sunk. However it was salvaged by the USSR in 1950 and rebuilt as the whaling factory ship “Yuri Dolgoruky”.
These people look like 2nd class passengers, sitting in some sort of a fenced area of the ship. No deck chairs, but sitting on the floor instead
And then, after some heavy weather conditions..... The Statue of Liberty from the Land of Opportunities!
On their way to a new future !
